Whale washed up: Beaches near Toti remain closed
Updated | By Shaun Ryan, Sandile Zikhali
The KZN Sharks Board says beaches in the vicinity of Amanzimtoti, south of Durban, remain off-limits to bathers.
This after a juvenile humpback whale beached at Pipeline yesterday morning.
Efforts to remove the whale from the beach continued for most of yesterday.
The sharks board's Mike Anderson-Reade says swimming has been banned at beaches south of the city for some time as a result of the sardine run.
"We've had the gear out of the water for some time there - because of the sardine run. So bathing is still closed in that Isipingo, Amazimtoti, Warner, Winklespruit area. We just recommend that people do not go out of the water until the remains are cleared away," he said.
