Activity on the beach attracted a large crowd of people to the area.

Authorities cleared the beach directly behind where the animal's body was lying in the shore break.

Teams used a TLB and heavy cables to try and pull the carcass up onto the beach.

Earlier, two bakkies were used to try and move the whale but they were unable to and have since moved off.

The whale had already died by the time authorities reached the beach.

It is understood the juvenile humpback whale was between one and two years old.
