Among those detained are five suspects nabbed at Estcourt near the Shell Ultra City yesterday. They were allegedly found with items that appeared to be petrol bombs.

The RFA's Gavin Kelly believes a group falling outside of the unions is responsible for the chaos and unrest.

"Remember none of the registered unions in South Africa are party to this, in terms of this violence," he said.

"This is an outside group and their view is that they want all foreign nationals who are employed in South Africa to be removed immediately."

"In the long-term, with the economy being damaged, we are going to have to begin shedding jobs. So the very people that they say they are trying to protect are going to lose out," explained Kelly.
