Two trucks torched south of Durban

Two trucks have been torched in the Woodlands area, near Montclair south of Durban overnight.

Firefighters were called to the corner of Nagle Square and Maclean Road at around 12.45am.

Regional commander for eThekwini Fire's Southern Region, Sibusiso Mkhulisi says crews found two trucks well alight when they arrived at the property.

"When we got there we found that there were two horse and trailers alight. We managed to save the trailers that were on both trucks," said Mkhulisi.

"No injuries were reported."

In terms of the cause of the fire, Mkhulisi says initial indications point towards arson.

He saws it took crews about 10 to 15 minutes to extinguish the flames.

A case of malicious damage to property has been opened at Montclair SAPS.

While the exact motive behind the attack is still unclear at this stage, it is believed to have been linked to the ongoing dispute and strike action within the trucking industry.
