Video: Young gangs armed with pangas terrorising Newcastle communities

Police have boosted their presence in Newcastle after gang-related violence broke out in some townships.

The SAPS says groups of boys, aged 12 to 17, have been terrorising community members in oSizweni and Blaauwbosch. 

Video footage circulating on social media - shows large groups of armed youngsters patrolling the streets. 

The boys call themselves 'Ama Last Warning Gang'.

The police's Jay Naicker says at least four boys have been murdered in rival wars. 

"There's been arrests in three of those cases already. There's just one case where an arrest is currently outstanding. 

"The police had meetings with those groups and with the parents of these children. These are very young children that are still in school and are involved in criminality.

"A lot of work is being done by the police; it seems like the parents have lost control of the children. 

"We have seized 45 dangerous weapons from these children that include knives and pangas, we've also seized two firearms," says Naicker.
