Verulam mom, toddlers found dead in apparent murder-suicide

There's an investigation into the circumstances around the deaths of a mother and her two young sons in Verulam, north of Durban.

The bodies of the woman and the two boys aged two and three were found in their home earlier today.


Police say it appears to be a murder-suicide.

Spokesperson, Thembeka Mbele says the woman also made her two daughters ingest a substance.


"She sent other children to the shop before she committed the crime. A double murder case and an inquest is being investigated by Verulam SAPS."


"The motive of the killing of the children and committing suicide is not known at the moment. It is very early for us to ascertain what is going on now," she says.

Reaction Unit South Africa paramedics treated the girls.


Spokesperson, Prem Balram says, "she had two daughters aged 10 and 12. They were treated by paramedics on scene and were transported to a provincial hospital a short while ago."


"They were given Rattex, approximately eight pellets each, according to the children and then sent to the tuck shop, upon their return they found the bodies of their siblings and their mother," he says.
