KwaZulu-Natal teacher unions have welcomed the arrest of a teacher who is accused of raping a 14-year-old pupil in Dundee.

The 36-year-old man allegedly called the teen to a storeroom on Friday, saying he was going to assist her with her homework.
The South African Democratic Teachers Union's Nomarashiya Caluza says they are appalled.

"That kind of teacher is not supposed to be in class. He does not belong in our classrooms.
"Our girl learners need us teachers as their mentors. What this teacher has done is a betrayal to the trust that parents have in us as they entrust us with their learners."
The suspect is due to apply for bail on Monday.
