On Monday morning, the group arrived for the third time in Pietermaritzburg, with the intention of camping there for the next week.

They are demanding jobs in KZN's public health facilities.

One of the organisers, Kenneth Sithole, who submitted a list of demands, said more doctors are expected to arrive at the protest during the course of Monday.

" One of the main things was, of course, the immediate employment of all unemployed doctors in the province, but also other healthcare professionals as well.

"But the other thing that we stated in that memorandum was a sustainable plan on how the government actually plans to address the issues of lack of staff in the healthcare sector as a whole."

He said government must act swiftly to address the challenges facing the healthcare system.

" They are aware the healthcare sector is in the crisis, but their response doesn't correspond to the awareness of a crisis because in terms of crisis, you don't wait this long to address issues."
