Undertakers prepared to call off strike if govt meet demands
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Funeral practitioners say they're prepared to call off their national strike - but only if government gives them what they're asking for.

More than 3 000 practitioners, associated with the Unification Task Team, downed tools for three days over the outsourcing of mortuary facilities, pay and a COVID-19 relief fund for the sector.
Muzi Hlengwa is with the National Funeral Practitioner's Association of SA.
He says certificates of competence remain a major sticking point.
"We want the department to give us respect by writing it on paper and saying to us - this is what we have resolved on."

"They are supposed to be writing us a formal letter and saying we are listening to your demands and we have agreed that the hospital must not ask for COC upon the collation of the board."
Meanwhile, the Health Department says there's nothing stopping practitioners from outsourcing their service. It says it's willing to discuss their issues.
