Health Dept willing to hold talks with striking funeral practitioners
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The Health Department says it's willing to sit with striking funeral practitioners to discuss their concerns.
Funeral parlours associated with the Unification Task Team have downed tools for three days, overpay and a COVID-19 relief fund.
They also want the outsourcing of mortuary facilities to be recognised and legalised.

The Health Department's Murdock Ramathuba addresses this issue.
"With regards to them demanding to be allowed to outsource or to participate in outsourcing of their services - there is nothing that stops that, there is no legislation that stops that.
"The department does not stop that; instead the department as well in some health facilities does outsource the responsibilities of management of human remains to the private sector that has the capacity where they do not have the capacity," says Ramathuba.
