uMgungundlovu staff rack up over R200 000 in unpaid municipal bills
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The Democratic Alliance (DA) says the uMgungundlovu staff - who owe the district municipality over half a million Rand in unpaid bills - need to pay up or face the music.

DA says they shouldn't get special treatment when many residents - buckling under COVID-19 pressure - are struggling to pay for services and rates.
During a council sitting last week, it was revealed that some municipal staff members have not paid for services since the end of July.
This despite receiving monthly salaries.

Umgeni councillor, Hazel Lake says the report showed that councillors owed the municipality over R200 000.
"The amounts outstanding should be negotiated so that payments can be made and staff members are pay off these debts. It's not correct that staff members have owings to the municipality.
"You cannot have staff members who are well paid also owing money and not paying for their services.
Meanwhile, uMgungundlovu's written a response, telling us that employees are supposed to lead by example.
Spokesperson Brian Zuma says no staff or councillor will be spared.
The outstanding amounts will be deducted from salaries.
