UKZN students vow to continue boycott
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
Some University of KwaZulu-Natal students from the institution's Westville campus say they are still boycotting classes and tests.
They are calling on the varsity to facilitate the release of the Student Representative Council's president who was arrested while trying to negotiate the release of another student during last month's violent protests.
He was denied bail in the Pinetown Magistrate's Court on Friday.
The SRC's Nash Khumalo claims the Westville SRC has not been part of the discussions with management and other student bodies.
''We are one campus that is most affected by all these issues but the reality is that as students we are still firm. We want our president to be released.
''[The university] has turned into a police station - there are so many police. They have changed the security company and they have even brought dogs on campus,'' he said.
It comes as UKZN management says consensus was reached with students representatives during yesterday's meetings.
