Two Springfield heist suspects due in court

Two suspects caught after an armed gang tried to rob cash guards in Durban's Springfield area are due to make their first court appearance today.

Hawks spokesperson, Simphiwe Mhlongo says they're investigating the gang's links to other crimes in the province

"We can confirm that the two suspects in an armed robbery at Springfield Park are appearing in the Durban Magistrate's Court today, facing charges relating to a cash-transit-heist and the possession of an unlicensed firearm," he says.  

The men were nabbed on Monday after targeting a cash-in-transit vehicle. This was followed by a lengthy gun battle and a car chase with police.

A suspect was shot dead in Springfield and four others in Parlock.

One later died in hospital. Meanwhile, a bystander who'd been caught in the crossfire, passed away yesterday.   

A ninth suspect remains on the run.
