Springfield heist: Police still searching for ninth suspect

A ninth member of an armed gang remains on the run this morning following two dramatic shootouts as well as a police chase in Durban yesterday.
Officers say the group robbed cash-in-transit guards - holding them up at gunpoint outside Springfield Value Centre on Umgeni Road in the morning.
According to eyewitnesses, a gunmen followed the guards' vehicle from Briardene to Makro.

Police were called to the scene and during a shootout - One suspect was killed, another wounded and two others arrested.
The rest of the gang fled in their getaway Mercedes towards Parlock. Police gave chase and another gun battle broke out which led to four suspects being killed.
SAPS spokesperson, Nqobile Gwala says charges including cash-in transit robbery, attempted murder and possession of suspected stolen property are being investigated.
"The suspects were also found in possession of four unlicensed firearms. We are still searching for the remaining suspects who were part of the group," she says.
