Trial of Glebelands Eight delayed again

The trial of the Glebelands Eight has been hit by yet another delay.

The group, among them a former police officer, are accused of orchestrating a series of assassinations at Glebelands Hostel in Umlazi, south of Durban.

Their trial was initially meant to start in January, but the Pietermaritzburg High Court adjourned the matter after hearing that counsel for three of the accused had not been paid.

The group was back in the High Court today, where there was another postponement.

The NPA in the province's Natasha Kara says the matter was postponed until tomorrow.

"The prosecutor did mention that there was some evidence outstanding and they hoped the matter will be resolved by tomorrow," she said.

The eight have been charged with nine counts of of murder, seven counts of attempted murder, racketeering, extortion and possession of illegal firearms as well as ammunition.
