Glebelands has been the scene of around 100 murders in just the last three years, with some of the killings at the hostel south of Durban believed to have had a political motive.

Speaking at the launch, Police Minister Fikile Mbalula said the community should expect changes in the way the area is policed.

"You will see a lot of smart policing in this particular area. We are not just coming here to dump a satellite, and then take off. We are coming here to unleash the resources to our people to have access. But over and above that, we are basically grinding tactics that are going to enable us to be in a position to live up to the expectation of the populace to fight crime in this area," he said.

Mbalula says officers will need the help of the public to succeed in the fight against crime.
