Treasury approved R670m in flood relief funds, says Godongwana

Treasury has approved some R670 million out of the R1 billion in disaster relief funds made available following April's deadly floods in KZN and the Eastern Cape.

The disaster left 448 people dead and displaced over 40 000.

Treasury on Friday updated Parliament's Ad Hoc Joint Committee on Flood Disaster Relief and Recovery on progress in providing support.
Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana has admitted government needs to do better in future.
"In my view we need to draw lessons out of this and say how do we develop a system of preparedness for disasters.""
