DA lodges complaints over flood victims’ living conditions
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The Democratic Alliance in KZN has submitted a complaint to the South African Human Rights Commission about the living conditions of flood victims still in community halls.
KZN leader Francois Rodgers says they conducted several oversight visits and learnt of the inhumane living conditions the victims are subjected to.
He says out of the 4 983 temporary residential units needed only 501 have been built with only 65 in eThekwini.

"So that means over three months, we've built just short of 400 units. If you knew the maths, it tells us that it is going to take three years for us to get to the target of 4 983 units.
"So we have to ask ourselves what is the problem? Is it a lack of capacity in the provincial government and eThekwini, or is there a funding problem?"
