Torrential rain over KZN set to ease from Tuesday

The South African Weather Service says the torrential rain lashing KwaZulu-Natal should start subsiding from Tuesday.
"Tomorrow, we only have a 30% chance of isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon and we do not have a possibility for an alert for the week," says forecaster Ayanda Ntsele.

The weather office says over the past 24 hours, Margate on the south coast measured 156 millimetres, Pennington south 86 millimetres and Port Edward 63.8 millimetres of rainfall.
North of Durban, 62 millimetres were recorded in Mount Edgecombe.

Emergency teams have had their hands full this morning as they responded to a spate of crashes in and around Durban.
Traffic was affected by many key stretches being waterlogged.
A mudslide flattened eight homes at an informal settlement in Tongaat.
Meanwhile, Cooperative Governance Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma says disaster management teams have been placed on high alert as heavy rains continue to batter the central and eastern regions.
