Her death comes a month after the killing of municipal manager, Sibusiso Sithole.

Speaking during a visit there yesterday, Nomusa Dube-Ncube praised Phoswa for the work she did.

"When the organisation decided that they are appointing her as the deputy mayor - they saw passion and the talent that we needed to nurture in ensuring that the lives of our people are made better. We are very saddened that the door of the life of Miss Phoswa has closed," she said.

KZN Safety MEC Mxolisi Kaunda says they have increased police visibility in Richmond following the Phoswa's brutal killing.

Kaunda says public order police units have been deployed to the area as reinforcements to help the local SAPS force with visible policing.

"The reason why we get worried is that we know the history of Richmond. Whatever happens here, we don't want it to resuscitate the levels of violence that we have been observing in a number of years in this area," he said.

Meanwhile, the Moerane Commission of Inquiry which was set up to investigate suspected political killings in KZN is now putting together its final report.
