Man taken in for questioning over Richmond deputy mayor's death
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
KZN police are yet to confirm whether the man taken in for questioning in connection with the death of Richmond deputy mayor Thandazile Phoswa has been charged with her murder.
Listen to the full bulletin below.
Phoswa sustained a fatal gunshot wound at her home in Ndaleni in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Her death comes just weeks after municipal manager, Sibusiso Sithole was gunned down near a school, in the Midlands.
The DA's Dean Macpherson says it's concerning that both incidents occurred within a month.
"We stand with the people of Richmond and the municipality in mourning the loss of the deputy mayor. It is extremely troubling in light of the recent killing of the municipal manager and to lose two senior officials in less than a month is deeply disturbing," he said.
The ANC said yesterday that the continued killings in the Midlands town could lead to instability.
While community members are calling for a high conviction rate in murder cases in the area.
