Suspect in Inanda girl's kidnap, murder case takes own life

An inquest docket has been opened after a man who was a suspect in the kidnapping and murder of a six-year-old Inanda girl was found dead.

Thiwe Masengeni and her eight-year-old sister disappeared from their home last week Monday, apparently after leaving with someone.
The older girl managed to escape.

Thiwe's body was found a day later on the banks of Inanda Dam.
She'd been strangled.
Police had not yet made any arrests.
KZN police spokesperson Thembeka Mbele says the man is believed to have taken his own life.

"We can confirm that an inquest docket is being investigated by Inanda SAPS.
"It is alleged that on 9 March 2022 at 11H45, the body of a 34-year-old man was found hanging inside the house at Ekuphakameni area in Inanda. The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated."
