Suspect in AKA murder set to appear in Durban court - lawyer

A man believed to be one of the suspects detained in connection with the murders of Kiernan 'AKA' Forbes and Tebello 'Tibz' Motsoane is expected to appear in court on Thursday.

Media reports this week suggested that several people were taken in by in connection with the murders of the rapper and his friend on Florida Road last month. 

 

The suspect is expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

 

Newswatch spoke to Advocate Annelene van den Heever, who is the legal representative of one of the suspects in the matter. 

  

Van den Heever confirmed a group of men were apprehended over the weekend.

She claims there was a violation of their rights due to the fact that they were kept for more than 48 hours without appearing in court. 

 

Van den Heever was adamant that the suspects were not merely taken in for questioning, but were in fact arrested. 

 

She also revealed that of the four who were arrested, three were subsequently released overnight with no reasons given.

 

The advocate couldn't disclose any further information due to security threats around the issue, and  revealed that she herself has been receiving death threats.

She said she will continue to represent the man and she is not fearing for her life.
