State concluding investigations in Phoenix assault case

The State is expected to wrap up the final phase of its investigation into a Phoenix mother, who allegedly assaulted her daughter to the point of unconsciousness, before the case goes to trial.
The woman and her former partner are set to appear in court this morning on attempted murder charges.
The pair is today due back in the Verulam Magistrates Court today for a pre-trial conference.
State Prosecutor, Ishara Sewnarayan had previously told the court that the state would be conducting several interviews with the five-year-old girl.

The prosecutor also told the court the State will produce video footage showing the girl being severely assaulted and intends calling doctors to testify during trial.
In the video, the little girl is seen being kicked repeatedly. A man, believed to be the mother's boyfriend, sits on the bed while filming the incident.
The child's biological father was granted custody of the girl last year.

As part of their bail conditions, both the accused are not allowed to see the girl.
