2018 Year in Review: Shocking Phoenix assault caught on camera
KwaZulu-Natal communities became enraged when a video of a young girl being severely assaulted was circulated on social media in March.
The now 5-year-old girl was beaten to the point of unconsciousness, allegedly by her mother.

The woman's partner is believed to have filmed the assault.Both the mother and her partner are facing charges of attempted murder.
They are expected to go on trial next year.
The girl has since been returned to the custody of her father.
