Former deputy minister, Mcebisi Jonas has been testifying before the Zondo Commission of Inquiry into State Capture about the day he was taken to meet with one of the Gupta brothers in 2015.

Jonas claims the meeting with a Gupta brother was facilitated by former president Jacob Zuma's son, Duduzane Zuma and businessman, Fana Hlongwane.

After a brief conversation at a hotel in Rosebank, Zuma suggested they go somewhere else to discuss something in private. That's when he was driven to the Guptas' Saxonwold compound. He says a man, who he believed to be Ajay Gupta, began speaking without introducing himself.

"He said that as far as he was concerned, this meeting never happened. And if I would one day to suggest that this meeting had occurred, they would destroy my political career," he said.

Jonas says despite not being interested in the position of Finance Minister, the Gupta brother continued to tell him about the role.

"He said emphatically that I must become Minister of Finance because that is what we want. He also said that if I worked with them, I would become very rich and that they could immediately offer me R600-million," Jonas said.
