Six suspects nabbed in KZN police operation

Six suspects are due in court soon after a police blitz in Newcastle targeting crimes like housebreaking, drug possession and drunk. Members of the Amajuba Cluster conducted the operation on Monday.

KZN police spokesperson Thulani Zwane says police seized mandrax tablets with a combined street value of R20 000.

"Three suspects were arrested at Madadeni and Osizweni for possession of drugs, pointing of a firearm and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm," he said. 


A 51-year-old was arrested allegedly for three cases of housebreaking and theft that he committed between January and July 2018. 


"The suspect targeted premises in the Newcastle CBD where he allegedly stole copper pipes, garden tools and other property," says Zwane. 


In another operation, a 65-year-old suspect was arrested in the Normandien policing precinct for allegedly driving under the influence of liquor and bribery of police officers.

In the Ingogo policing precinct, a 27-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly failed to appear at the Newcastle Magistrates Court this year.


"He was arrested in June 2018 for driving under the influence of an intoxicating substance as well as reckless and negligent driving. He is accused of driving along the N11 freeway where he allegedly lost control of his vehicle resulting in his passengers sustaining serious injuries," says Zwane.    


The group will line up in the Newcastle Magistrate's Court soon.
