Significant strides taken in fight against HIV/Aids

It is World Aids Day today and scientists say significant developments have been made in improving treatment for those infected with HIV.

New UNAIDS ambassador, Quarraisha Karim says it will not be long before ARVs become a thing of the past.
"The new science that is coming through is injectable forms of different drugs that could be administered maybe three or four times a year, implants coming maybe once a year and you are good in terms of prevention for the rest of the year," she said.

The Durban professor says World Aids Day was launched in 1988.

It is aimed at creating awareness around Aids, which affects around 35-million people globally.
