Shallcross collapse victim the life of the party: Family

The sisters of Nompumelelo Chili say the 27-year-old was a bubbly, free spirit.

Nompumelelo and her 1-year-old daughter, Sibahle were killed when the roof of their Ngena Road home, near Shallcross caved in on them early this morning.

The family is in shock.

Nonpumelo’s younger sister, Gcinokuhle says her mother phoned her to tell her what had happened:

She says Sibahle had struggled with health problems when she was born but was getting better.

"She had been through a lot and we never expected her life to take a turn like this. We were hoping she was going to grow up and become something after all the challenges she had been through," she said.

Paramedics so both Nompumelelo and Sibahle died at the scene.

Authorities are still trying to establish what caused the roof to cave in.


The family had been renovating the home.

It is understood the roof over the dining room, where Nompumelelo and Sibahle had been sleeping, was recently completed.

The roof over the bedrooms was still be renovated.
