The pair had been sleeping in the dining room of their family home, near Shallcross while renovations to the roof were underway in the bedrooms.

The roof of the dining room had just been completed.

It is now understood that seven people had been at home at the time of the collapse. The family had been refurbishing the roof and work was not yet complete in the bedrooms.

Nompumelelo Chili and her daughter, Sibahle had been sleeping in the room with her two sons and her older brother.

Her mother and younger brother had been sleeping in one of the bedrooms without a roof. They ran through to the dining room after the roof caved in and dug their family members out from beneath the debris.

They managed to save the little boys and Nompumelelo's older brother.

Tragically though, by the time they reached the young mother and her little girl, the pair had already died.

Nompumelelo's younger brother has not spoken a word this morning. The family has been left severely traumatised.
