Security assigned to Folweni school, classes suspended
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Teaching and learning at Masuku Primary School in Folweni south of Durban has been suspended for the week following the murder of a teacher there yesterday.
48-year-old Sboniso Nyawose was shot dead while walking through a corridor.
Police say the suspect who opened fire, immediately ran out of the school and into a getaway car driven by an accomplice.
The Education Department's HOD, Enoch Nzama says educators and pupils are traumatised and fearful.
Nzama say they were locked in a meeting with teachers and management of the school this morning.

"Teachers will remain on school premises because they are still working. There is counselling taking place - for both teachers and learners."
Nzama says learners are not school premises as classes have been suspended.
"Teachers will remain until Friday because schools are closing on Friday. We will provide security at the gate there to look after the school and see to it that teachers already on the premises are looked after," Nzama said.
