Search continues for armed gang behind Sundumbili hostage drama

Police in northern KZN are still searching for an armed gang involved in a robbery turned hostage drama in Sundumbili's Boxer Cash and Carry.
It's understood six assailants targeted employees as they were preparing to open the store early Monday morning.

Police say seven staff members, including a security guard, were shoved into a cold room and left there for over an hour.
Their three colleagues, meanwhile, managed to hide.
The armed group demanded money from them.

But police say they had no luck and are believed to have fled through the backdoor when officers arrived.
IPSS Medical Rescue's Operations Manager Phumlani Vezi told Newswatch that police searched the premises thoroughly, but there was no sign of the gang.
"We waited for police and some of the police that were with us waited for different departments to come and assist us."

"We were busy searching the place to make sure if the suspects are still in side but no one gets away. We did everything we can to check everywhere and the suspects managed to escape."
