[WATCH] Sundumbili hostage drama: KZN police searching for 6 armed suspects

Police units are carrying out a massive search for six armed suspects at a store in Sundumbili, in northern KZN.

They hit retailer Boxer Cash and Carry early on Monday morning and held several staff members against their will. 


The scene was still active by late Monday morning.


The latest information coming out of the building is that police officers and other members of special task teams, including the hostage negotiators members of the special task force all looking for these six suspects.

It's understood that these suspects were dropped off here earlier in the day they entered the building and they held the employees up demanding money, amongst other things, 


Seven of the employees were pushed into a cold room. 


They got themselves free and came out. They were treated for hypothermia.

Three more staff members were found in the floor of one of the buildings. 


KZN police spokesperson Jay Naicker has told us that at this stage, they've been unable to track down these suspects. 

They are unaware if these suspects are still in the building or have managed to get out through the back door. 


Newswatch understands that all the employees have either been taken to hospital or are currently being treated.
