Schools simply can't close once COVID-19 detected: KZN MEC
The KwaZulu-Natal Education Department says it's working closely with the Health Department in dealing with COVID-19 cases in school
Education MEC, Kwazi Mshengu has been reacting to some concerns from parents after a growing number of cases in schools.
The number of infections at schools in the province has increased to 187, of which 139 are infected teachers, and 37 are infected pupils.
Mshengu says they wait for a directive from the Health Department on when and how the situation is handled.

"We now, no longer, simply close a school once a case of a positive infection has been reported.
"We get guided by the Health Department to say probably you can close this area, decontaminate and open it within 48 hours. So that is the protocol that we are following.
"There are schools where cases have been reported of positive infection. We did not close the school. We closed a particular class or a staff room to have it decontaminated."
