The number of COVID-19 cases in South Africa has surpassed 150 000, with a staggering 128 deaths recorded in the past 24 hours.
The confirmed cases are now at 151 209, with the Western Cape leading with 62 481 cases followed by Gauteng with 42 881 and the Eastern Cape with 27 686.
KwaZulu-Natal still has the fourth-highest number of confirmed cases of the virus of 9 674.
The Health Ministry is concerned that Gauteng will soon overtake the Western Cape thanks to an anticipated spike in national cases.
Health Minister Zweli Mkhize has said this week that if things continue to get worse a hard lockdown may be initiated again.
