SARS filing deadline for employers close

The taxman's urging employers to stick to the deadline of the Employers Filing Season.

You have until Monday to update your employee declaration status with the South African Revenue Service (SARS).

KwaZulu-Natal regional director, Dan Zulu says those who don't - face penalties.
He says this is a necessary step, before the 1st of July - when individual taxpayers start filing their returns.
"Employers who are not submitting their EMP501s for employees on time and then come the 1st of July - the employees they then come to SARS trying to make their own declaration and they find that the employers have not submitted their IRP5s to SARS so it becomes a problem for us where we have to say we don't have your IRP5."
