Sardines netted off KZN south coast, moving towards Durban
Updated | By Portia Cele
Hundreds of baskets of sardines have been netted off the KwaZulu-Natal south coast.
The KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board's Mike Anderson-Reade says a lot of activity was reported off Ramsgate at the weekend.
Anderson-Reade says sardines were netted about six or seven times.
"Each net had 250 to 500 crates if sardines. Netting also took place yesterday at the Margate main beach, another 250 crates were netted there," he said.
He says the sardine activity is moving northwards towards Hibberdene on the upper south coast.
Shark safety gear has been removed from Scottburgh to Port Edward.
"As that activity moves up we will probably pull nets right up to Ansteys and Brighton Beach, depending on what we see from their air," he said.

The Sharks Board has been conducting observation flights to the East Cape to track the movement of sardine shoals along the coast.
