Sandile Ndlovu murder suspect remanded in custody

The man arrested in connection with the murder of Durban University of Technology (DUT) student Sandile Ndlovu is expected to apply for bail next week.

The 29-year-old suspect was arrested on Monday.

Ndlovu was attacked inside a lecture hall at the Steve Biko campus last month and robbed of his cellphone and laptop.
He died in hospital a few days later.
The suspect appeared in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Wednesday where the matter was remanded for a bail application.
Following his arrest police told Newswatch that a cellphone belonging to Ndlovu was seized along with a knife believed to be the murder weapon.

But, according to charge sheets seen by Newswatch, Ndlovu's attacker assaulted the 18-year-old with a hammer which resulted in his death.
The suspect is due in court on Wednesday.
