Ndlovu was stabbed and robbed of his cellphone and laptop inside a lecture hall last month.

The 18-year-old first-year student died in hospital after nearly two weeks on life support.

Police spokesperson, Jay Naicker says the suspect was taken taken in for questioning on Monday.

"Following further investigation, police also seized the knife, suspected to be the murder weapon, as well as a cellphone belonging to the deceased student."

"The suspect will be charged with murder and is expected to appear in the Durban magistrates Court tomorrow," he said.

In a statement from DUT management, it said it has hired private investigators to assist the police in the investigation.

"The University is pleased with the positive development in the investigation and we would like to extend our gratitude to the private investigators and to the police for successfully arresting the suspect. We hope that justice will be served for Sandile and his family."
