Some workers protested at the Durban and Richards Bay harbours on Thursday.

In Durban, they tried to block the routes into the port, but metro police jumped into action.

Unions, who want a 13.5% pay hike, have rejected the state-owned entity's 3% offer.

Leaders said a nationwide strike is going ahead on Monday.

Road Freight Association CEO Gavin Kelly says any damage to infrastructure will have an impact on the overall logistics chain.

"We call on all of those who are involved in protesting the employment conditions to rethink the way in which they protest and to keep in mind that tomorrow they will need to go back to work and that they cannot go back to work of they destroy infrastructure in such a way that the employers actually fold.
