Workers to down tools at Transnet from Monday
Updated | By Algoa FM
Labour unions have thrown down the gauntlet and are readying for a full-blown strike at Transnet.
The state-owned entity's revised offer on Wednesday of a 3% wage increase has been rejected by both the SA Transport and Allied Workers Union and the United National Transport Union.
Unions are demanding a much higher figure of 13.5%.
Transnet had also committed to a lump sum payment of R7 600 that would be paid to workers in the next financial year as well as back pay from April that would be paid in three stages starting in January.

Satawu spokesperson Amanda Tshemese says it's now all systems go for the strike on Monday.
"We have sent our picketing rules to the bargaining council for the attention of the employer to avoid violence, chaos and unlawful actions in the picketing areas.
"Everything is done at the bargaining level. We will be discussing the rules through the Transnet bargaining council tomorrow. Then on Monday, we are going on strike as planned."
