Relative arrested after mutilated body of Estcourt boy (3) found

Police have arrested a family member, in connection with the murder of a three-year-old Estcourt boy.

It's understood the child was with his grandmother at their home in the Thembelihle area when the relative arrived on Thursday and took him away. 


The police's Nqobile Gwala says the suspect became violent when he was later questioned about the child's whereabouts. 


That's when family members decided to search for him.

"At four in the afternoon, the child was found in the bushes with a nail inserted into his head and mutilated. The police were immediately alerted and responded to the scene. 


"A 36-year-old suspect was placed under arrest for murder and the missing body parts were found in the suspect's house. The suspect is due to appear before the Escourt Magistrate Court."


KZN Social Development's Mhlaba Memela says they've sent counsellors to the family. 


"Its a very horrible incident, very shocking in the area of Escourt and we are hoping that the law enforcement agencies will actually track down what exactly happened and ensure that the perpetrators are punished."
