Probe into alleged negligence after pregnant woman dies in KZN hospital

KwaZulu-Natal Health says it's looking into claims of negligence, after a pregnant woman died at a hospital in KwaDukuza at the weekend.
Sithembile Shabane from Mandeni died at the General Justice Gizenga Memorial Hospital on Saturday morning.
There are allegations that an ambulance that was meant to take the 23-year-old woman to hospital on Friday - was delayed.
There are further claims she wasn't properly attended to once she was at the facility.
Shabane's brother, Vusi Hlekwayo, says the family is in great pain. He says they need answers so they can have closure.

"We are very sad that we have just lost a loved one - due to the negligence that has occurred inside a government [building]."
Health MEC, Nomagugu-Simelane-Zulu says they're expecting a report on the incident in a month's time.
"The community was quite agitated and upset about the death. There were allegations of negligence on the part of the staff. We will have a report back session with the clinic. However, there will be investigations - conducted by the department. We will follow-up as soon as we have received the report," she said.
