The strike follows a wage disagreement between Transnet and unions representing thousands of workers around the country.

Prasa has chosen to put operations on hold as of Thursday for the safety of its passengers and infrastructure.

Prasa’s KZN spokesperson Saneh Msane says the suspension of service affects those who'd be travelling on trains between Durban and Tongaat.

"The suspension is occasioned by Transnet who went on strike, which affected the running of trains on the North Coast corridor, which is under the control of Transnet.

"Prasa KZN apologises for this unfortunate announcement and will continue to assess the situation to determine when it would be safe to resume services."
