Pongola truck crash: Victims' families meet with KZN govt

The families of the 20 people, including 18 children, who were killed in a truck crash near Pongola are taking their concerns over road safety in KZN to government.

They met with a government delegation in northern KwaZulu-Natal on Friday.
Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube's taking a delegation of government leaders to the community this morning to thrash out a plan to improve road safety in the area.
Her office says they'll focus on long-term solutions that include additional measures and strict compliance by trucking companies.
Dube-Ncube will also provide social relief.

Last month's collision took place on the N2 between a truck and a bakkie transporting children from school.
The pupils were aged between five and 12 years.
Trucker Sibusio Siyaya's abandoned his bid for bail.
Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula says that the cause of the accident was due to driver error, adding that the truck driver overtook traffic for about 1.2 kilometres on a double barrier line before smashing into the bakkie.
