Police: No indication 6th body found in Mthwalume linked to murders

KZN Police Commissioner Khombinkosi Jula says at this point there is no indication that the body found in Mthwalume over the weekend is linked to those bodies of five women dead in the south coast area over the last few months.

"What we have been able to establish so far regarding the latest body that was found, is that it is a body that seems to have been carried to a spot where it was then dumped, and it was brought there covered in a canvas or a plastic bag. It was dumped there and then burnt," says Jula.

Jula on Tuesday accompanied Premier Sihle Zikalala on a visit to the families of the five victims.

The murders of Nelisiwe Dube, Nosipho and Akhona Gumede, Zama Chiliza and one unidentified woman led the community to believe a serial killer was responsible.

A suspect whom authorities allege confessed to the killings - took his own life while in police custody.

Fears arose again over the weekend after a badly burnt was found in the area at the weekend.

Jula says it appears this victim is also a woman.

"However, there are DNA tests that still need to be done to confirm exactly. But all indications are that it's a female."

Zikalala laid wreaths at the spots where the bodies were discovered - as he launched the province's campaign against gender-based violence.
