KwaZulu-Natal police have confirmed that the vehicle in which two people were killed in a drive-by shooting on Umbilo Road on Thursday, was an e-hailing taxi.

It's understood the vehicle had come to a stop at the traffic light outside a licensing centre when suspects in a white SUV opened fire.
The driver and single passenger were killed instantly.

Meanwhile, a local resident who does not want to be named says he heard the sound of gunshots in his flat.
"I was in my flat and all of a sudden I heard about three gunshots. We thought it was a truck passing that had a fault with its tyres, but then I saw my neighbours running from the flat. Then after the three shots, I heard plenty gunshots going off."
