PMB SHOOTOUT: Seven suspects including escaped prisoners killed
Updated | By Nothando Mkhize
Police have confirmed seven suspects have been killed in a shootout in Scottsville in Pietermaritzburg.
Crime intelligence officials acted on information received about a notorious gang believed to have been terrorising the community of Plessislaer.
It's understood suspected members of the gang were using a vacant home in the suburb as a hideout.
KZN police spokesperson, Thembeka Mbele says police officers and members of a local security company raided the house at around 14h30.

"When they were approaching the house they were shot at. There was an exchange of gunfire. Seven people were shot and killed inside the house, of which two are female.
"We can confirm that one of the suspects was among the prisoners that escaped from a truck that was taking them to court in April."
Mbele says it's not yet clear at this stage if the remaining four suspects killed were also escapees.
