Pickets held outside Pietermaritzburg school

Pickets outside Pietermaritzburg Girls' High are expected to continue for the rest of the week with a silent protest also planned for Friday over a racist incident involving a learner.
The Grade 11 pupil was suspended yesterday for allegedly using the K-word to refer to fellow pupils - in a voice note that has been shared over the last few days.
In the voice recording, a girl is heard complaining about the mispronunciation and misspelling of her name.
Some parents demonstrated outside the school this morning and were joined by members of the the SACP and the Young Communist League.

SACP organiser in the Moses Mabhida region, Rudolph Madlala says the ANC Youth League will join them at their next picket.
"It will be intensified on Friday. Once you believe this child was raised in a particular home - you will think this is the language that they speak. We want to ensure this does not continue to happen," he said.
