Wet roads and localised flooding have been reported in numerous regions, especially on the north coast.

The South African Weather Service says several areas in the province received more than 100mm of rain during a 24-hour period.

The measurements were made at 8am this morning.

The University of Zululand had received some 200mm of rain by this morning. 147mm were recorded at the Richards Bay Airport, while Riverview received 134mm.

The weather service has issued a warning for heavy rain in north eastern parts of KwaZulu-Natal.

Forecaster, Stacy Colborne says weather conditions are expected to begin improving as we approach the weekend.

Meanwhile, emergency services say they have received numerous callouts.

Although the exact circumstances leading many of the road accidents still have to be investigated, authorities are urging motorists to slow down and increase their following distance.
